Description
Inspired by "Some people are Gay. Get over it!", the official slogan for the UK-based gay rights charity Stonewall.
Stonewall, named after the bar in New York attributed with starting the gay rights movement, has been a constant in the campaign to legalise same-sex marriage in the United Kingdom, and along with Peter Tatchell is one of the two main public faces of support for the legislation.
Tonight (somewhere between 19:30-23:00 British Summer Time) marks the second reading of the Marriage (Same-Sex Couples) Bill in the House of Lords, which will be followed by a vote... it is also at this stage that a member of Parliament is expected to introduce a wrecking amendment intended to kill the bill off. This amendment would be the second to be introduced in recent months (the previous was in the House of Commons) in attempts to derail the process... showing the lengths some people will go to.
Additionally, the local paper has received the newest missive from a local religious figure who has proven himself to be exceptionally intolerant to gay people (that latest letter is depicted in full in one of my recent submissions).
Inspired to counteract some of the negativity I felt moved to write a small essay, themed around Stonewall's slogan and using the iconography of the poster campaign.
