TITANIC HiJack

So yeah, I ship this ship...

So several weeks ago I began to muse on the idea of swapping Jack and Rose for Jack and Hiccup, and the more I thought about it, the more the idea didn't seem very crazy.  As I thought more about it, the more details slotted into place...

Hiccup, the son of a disapproving and overbearing father, destined to lead even though the things that interest him have little relation to what his father has in store for him.

Jack, a carefree spirit of rebellion with no ties to anything who journeys the world seeking adventure.



Hiccup fits very neatly into the character void of Rose, both of whom are in the position where they are about to receive responsibilities they don't want to have put on their shoulders, and in both cases by parents who are less than happy with how they've been leading their lives up to the point where they board the R.M.S. Titanic.

As for Jack, in addition to the fact his spirit and personality are of a similar cloth to the other Jack's, the fates of both and their deaths in ice have cemented the choice further, and it lets me include something as well.


There are some aspects which actually do argue in favour of swapping the characters around... at least for some scenes (such as Hiccup's skill with drawing - which could be used to suggest that rather than his intended fate, Hiccup would prefer to become an artist... but I suspect Jack will remain the artist).

It was only a few weeks ago that I discovered that my brilliant concept had been thought up by a few other people, some utilising the same Jack/Hiccup pairing... some utilising other characters from the DreamWorks/Pixar spectrum.  Having invested as much thought into the back story of this, I won't be giving up... but I will be acknowledging where those other artists may have influenced my work.

The main body of this "TITANIC Hijack" concept will be a collection of fake screenshots, made to look like they were taken from an animated movie from 1997.  The majority of the art pieces will be depicted using something analogous to Disney or Fox's animation style... coloured line art and feathered shadows.

However, there will be a few pieces (including a second version of this poster) which will be depicted in a more realistic, comic style.  Some of the screenshots will attempt to be as close to camera angles from the movie as possible, whilst others will use a bit of creative artistic licence.


I'm also giving consideration to even writing some prose for the scenes to help lay down more of the modified back story.

I imagine there'll be some pleasant surprises regarding some of my casting choices.
